Spice and Wolf

Horo This is one of my latest completed series. I recommend this show to everyone.

I was reluctant to put this show in the recommendation section for it contains harmless nudity. Anyways the show was a great catch and i am glad that i picked it.

Synopsis: Craft Lawrence is a young merchant of miscellaneous stock. He judges the market and decides what item to pick for his business as he moves from one end of the country to another with his horse carriage. While he was passing through a village he knew beforehand, one day he finds something moving in his carriage. He was stunned to see a nude girl with ZOMG! wolf ears and a wolf tail, lying there harmlessly. She claims herself to be the goddess of harvest. And so Craft meets Horo, a beautiful maiden, as she claims herself to be lol.

Horo decides to give Craft her hundred years worth of wisdom, in return Craft will have to accompany her as she tries to reach north, where she was originally born. And there onwards, their journey continues as they meet and overcome obstacles, as Craft earns invaluable experience in his tradings alongside Horo, Horo at the same time waits her days by as she finally found someone to accompany her to her long awaited journey back home.

Short Review: The anime is excellent. 13 episodes is way too short for anime of this caliber. The first advice will be not to drop the show after the opening song, the only thing that pushed me back to my bed to have a quick nap lol.

The story revolves around Craft and Horo, and yes, they are the only two constant characters throughout the show, more like Kino and Helmes from “Kino no Tabi”. But both of the characters are equally great. The best thing is their seiyuus, Crafts voice is given by Jun Fukuyama, popularly known for his voiceover of Lelouch from Code Geass and Ami Koshimizu from the same anime (Kallen) who did Horo’s part.

Horo finds herself really comfortable as long as Craft is around. She seems to develop a feeling for Craft that makes him no ordinary fellow traveller and loves to be pampered by Craft. Craft on the other hand, sees nothing but the way he can profit out of his goods. Their relation however reminded me more of Lelouch-C.C from Code Geass. Seriously.

The story is awesome, set in the days when Europe flourished in trading. The misuse of power of the then Church authorities in the name of God is impressively illustrated in the anime. The anime sets the stage of that age brilliantly, taking you to the exact time of then Europe.

The anime is well drawn with high details of background and environment. The color contast of different scenes have been eye catching. The characters are drawn beautifully. The emotions are shown with fine expressions.

All in all, its a must watch show, and should not be avoided, just because the opening song sends you sleeping or more importantly, for shoujos, Horo appears naked. lol.
